Compliance Training

The first step in any compliance program is to ensure that all levels of staff are trained and inculcated with their employer’s values and culture regarding honesty and integrity.  Understanding the applicable regulations is also a fundamental part of any meaningful training program.  The staff of TANYES Compliance has conducted trainings for well over one thousand health care professionals.  All of the trainings are catered to the unique needs of each agency as well as the anticipated attendees- Board of Directors, senior management, mid-level managers, and direct care/line level staff.  The trainings employ video and audio presentations, substantive material, anecdotes, and practical examples.  

The trainings focus on the following areas:

1. Corporate Compliance and documentation
• Focus on state and federal legal and regulatory requirements.
• Discussion includes staff's obligation to conduct internal audits, develop policies and procedures, conduct staff training, address billing errors, conduct Medicaid exclusion checks, foster an environment of non-retaliation, and most importantly, foster a culture of transparency and integrity. 
• Training provides practical, contemporary examples from the media and other sources.
• Multi-faceted presentation, including audio and video presentations. 

2. HIPAA and Client Confidentiality
• Focus on state and federal legal and regulatory requirements.

• Discussion includes staff's obligation to maintain client confidentiality, exclusions to client confidentiality, HIPAA Notice of Privacy Practices, and HIPAA Business Associate Agreements.  Additionally, there is a discussion regarding clients' rights, including requests for clinical records, requests to modify their records, and other client protections under HIPAA.  
• Training provides practical, contemporaneous examples from the media and other sources.
• Multi-faceted presentation, including audio and video presentations.


3. Client Safety/Incident Reporting and Management
• Focus on state and federal legal and regulatory requirements, including the NYS Justice Center.
• Discussion includes categories of abuse and neglect, staff's obligation to report allegations of client abuse, conduct internal investigations and hold Incident Review Committee, develop policies and procedures, conduct staff training, ascertain and address systemic issues, foster an environment of non-retaliation, and most importantly, foster a culture of transparency and integrity. 
• Training provides practical, contemporaneous examples from the media and other sources.
• Multi-faceted presentation, including audio and video presentations.


4. Employment Discrimination and Sexual Harassment 
• Focus on state and federal legal and regulatory requirements, including the role of the U.S. Equal Employment Opportunity Commission (EEOC).
• Discussion includes the various protected classes (age, race, religion, gender, for example), mechanism to best address allegations of workplace discrimination and sexual harassment, staff's obligation to conduct internal investigations, development of policies and procedures, conduct staff training, foster an environment of non-retaliation, and most importantly, foster a culture of respect and transparency.  
•  Training provides practical, contemporaneous examples from the media and other sources.
•  Multi-faceted presentation, including audio and video presentations.
